Why do we run?
Running offers an instant release, “runner’s high”, but also allows us to train our brain to focus on planning for longer term goals. A training plan brings direction, focus and structure. In turn this brings delayed gratification – something that is increasingly rare in the instant world that we live in.
Training for a long or challenging race is much like building a career. We start off full of wide-eyed optimism and youthful vigour, before inevitably reaching a stumbling block or challenge; careers stagnate, we take the wrong turn, recessions occur, changes in our personal life arise. But with every challenge, we learn more about ourselves. We can build resilience, improve our goal-setting and planning so that we have achievable short-term goals in our quest to achieve our ultimate aim, whatever that may be.
Running can make you, your teams and colleagues happier, more aligned and more productive in the work place.
We don’t have to run far. We don’t have to run fast.
I’d love to share my passion for running with as many people as possible, both in person and via our social platforms. Follow us on LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram. Better still, check in and join us…
